Watercolor Studies &
Perception Explorations

Here my practice becomes slower and more intuitive. Through watercolor painting, I explore how the same image can evoke different meanings, memories, and emotions depending on the person viewing it. These works often become starting points for broader investigations: some remain standalone pieces, while others are transformed through digital processes or return to analog form as prints.

During medieval and early modern times, it was thought that a homunculus, an artificial humanlike being, could be created through alchemy. The fully grown homunculus was supposedly greatly skilled in "art" and can create giants, dwarves, and other marvels, as "Through art they are born, and therefore art is embodied and inborn in them, and they need learn it from no one."[1]

In the essay “What is an image?”, W. T. J. Mitchell [2] elaborates: “Mental images don’t seem to be stable and permanent the way [pictures] are, and they vary from one person to the next: if I say “green,” for instance, some of you may see green in your mind’s eye, but some of you will see a word, or nothing at all. And mental images don’t seem to be exclusively visual the way real pictures are; they involve all the senses.”

Through colors, forms, and compositions, I capture sensations, thoughts, and ideas that evoke the unique mental images contained within each observer’s subjectivity.

Selected paintings from the series were featured in Le Cric Imprimerie's 2025 Christmas Postcards
